Pakistan U-14 Finishes Last at World Junior Tennis Asia

KUCHING, MALAYSIA (GNP): The Pakistan Under-14 Boys’ team’s performance at the World Junior Tennis Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event has sent shockwaves through the local sporting community, as the team finished last at 16th place following a winless campaign. The results for Pakistan’s junior tennis team in the tournament that concluded on May 3,2026 belie claims of developing a sound base for the future by PTF.

Pakistan’s campaign began with a series of demoralizing whitewashes in Group A of the tournament, where Pakistan failed to win a single set against the heavyweights like Japan and India, or even a regional rival Vietnam, losing all three ties 3-0. Relegated to the bottom-tier play-offs, the squad’s struggles only intensified as they failed to find a footing against diverse playing styles.

After 2-1 losses against New Zealand on Day 4 and Uzbekistan on Day 5, the team lacked the tactical depth, mental resilience, and physical conditioning required to close out matches at that level of competition. The nadir point of the competition was a 2-0 defeat to Sri Lanka, statistically confirming Pakistan as the weakest performing nation amongst the 16 participating countries.

While neighbouring nations like Thailand, Indonesia, and even Sri Lanka have shown clear upward trajectories through consistent grassroots’ investment, Pakistan’s tennis base shows clear fragility. The inability of the Under-14 squad to secure a single tie victory over six days of the elite competition prognosticates a decline that in the face of stiff competition by the rapidly improving Asian nations.
