Cultural Diplomacy initiative with IFWA, Serena Hotels hosted “Taste of the World,” a food festival celebrating global cuisine and cultural diversity

ISLAMABAD (GNP): The annual “Taste the World Charity Event 2026,” organized by the Islamabad Foreign Women’s Association (IFWA) in collaboration with diplomatic missions and Islamabad Serena Hotel, brought together an esteemed gathering of diplomats, civil society leaders, and embassy representatives on May 3, 2026. Ms. Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman Senate and Ambassador to the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Advisor to the Chairman of the Senate and ISC Ambassador Misbah Khar addressed the IFWA Taste the World Charity Event 2026 in Islamabad, calling for unity between governments, diplomats, and civil society to drive lasting change for vulnerable communities.

Ms. Misbah Khar said, “Food is the language of diplomacy that needs no translation.”

Addressing the distinguished gathering, Ms. Khar expressed her appreciation to IFWA, its leadership, and all stakeholders for organizing what she called a “remarkable and noble initiative.” She noted that such events go beyond cultural exchange, serving as a powerful platform for collective goodwill and humanitarian purpose.

IFWA’s Role in Bridging Communities Since 1995

Ms. Khar acknowledged IFWA’s longstanding contributions since its establishment in 1995, recognizing the organization’s role in raising awareness, mobilizing resources for social causes, and fostering stronger ties between Pakistan and the international community. She emphasized that IFWA has consistently served as a bridge connecting diverse communities through compassion and shared purpose.

She also commended the President of IFWA, Ms. Nompumelelo Abu-Basutu, along with IFWA members, the Pakistan Foreign Office Women’s Association, Serena Hotel management, and all participating diplomatic missions for their continued commitment to charitable causes.

Women’s Empowerment and Pakistan’s Commitment to Social Welfare

Underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive development, Ms. Khar highlighted key national initiatives including the Benazir Income Support Programme, which has provided critical financial assistance to millions of deserving families across the country. She noted that government-led efforts are further strengthened by complementary community initiatives like “Taste the World.”

“Events such as these demonstrate that when governments, civil society, diplomatic communities, and citizens come together, meaningful and lasting change becomes possible,” she remarked.

The “Taste the World Charity Event” is one of IFWA’s flagship annual initiatives, celebrating global diversity while raising funds for charitable projects across Pakistan. The event focuses particularly on women’s empowerment, education, and social welfare, with culinary contributions from embassies and high commissions around the world. The 2026 edition was held with the generous sponsorship of Islamabad Serena Hotel.

Diplomatic Missions Join IFWA Charity Event 2026

Delighted to participate in the “Taste the World” event organized by the Islamabad Foreign Women’s Association (IFWA), visitors tasted Nepali cuisine in an atmosphere of culture and flavors, supporting the charitable causes of IFWA.

The Embassy of Italy also made a notable presence at the IFWA Charity Event at Serena Hotel, with Ambassador Mariolina Armellin representing Italy at the Italian stand, adding to the rich tapestry of global cultures on display.

The Embassy of Kazakhstan to Pakistan participated in the annual charity food festival “Taste the World 2026,” organized by the Islamabad Foreign Women’s Association (IFWA) with the support of Serena Hotel. The Embassy’s staff and family members prepared traditional Kazakh delicacies, which attracted considerable interest from guests. The funds raised during the festival will be directed toward the implementation of IFWA’s charitable projects.

Belgium was also delighted to be part of Taste the World, joining so many others in turning global cuisine into meaningful support for those in need. The Belgian delegation proudly shared a taste of their culture through a waffle stall, celebrating the spirit of IFWA, which has long worked to foster cultural exchange while supporting underprivileged women and children through its charitable initiatives.

Serena Hotels, under its Cultural Diplomacy initiative and in collaboration with IFWA, hosted “Taste the World 2026” as a distinguished food festival celebrating international cuisine and cultural diversity. The event featured 24 stalls from various diplomatic missions, each showcasing an authentic selection of traditional dishes and offering guests a rich, immersive global culinary experience.

The festival was inaugurated by the President of IFWA, Nompumelelo Abu Basutu, together with the CEO of Serena Hotels, Mr. Aziz Boolani, underscoring the importance of cultural exchange and community engagement through shared experiences.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to charitable organizations on IFWA’s panel, supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of visually impaired individuals. A total amount of PKR 2 million was raised through this initiative, reflecting the collective generosity and commitment of all participating partners and attendees.
