Pakistan’s energy infrastructure has benefited from Chinese investment- President Alvi

Islamabad, 24 November 2022 (GNP): According to President Alvi, Chinese investments and contributions to Pakistan’s energy and power infrastructure have increased Pakistan’s capacity to diversify its energy mix.

Lyu Xiufeng, the General Manager of China Energy International Group Co. Ltd., and his delegation visited the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi.

Both sides discussed topics of mutual interest throughout the meeting.

At the moment, it consists of wind, solar, hydro, and nuclear energy. Chinese assistance has helped the country satisfy its ever-expanding energy demands.

He proposed that Pakistan should prioritise alternative and renewable energy sources like solar and wind in addition to leveraging critical and effective technology to lower greenhouse gas emissions from coal- and oil-based energy sources.

The President received an update on the Neelum Jhelum, Dasu, Suki Kinari, Azad Pattan, and Mohmand hydropower projects.

During the meeting, he was also informed of the progress of the Karachi K2/K3, Bhikki Combined-Cycle Power, Jhimpir Wind, and M-4 Motorway projects.

The President informed the group that the relationship between Pakistan and China was stronger than ever and that it extended beyond the seas and the Himalayas.

He stated that the warm connections between the leadership and people of Pakistan and China are the cornerstone of the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Partnership.

Dr. Arif Alvi reaffirmed that CPEC is a multidimensional project that helps the country by enhancing its road, port, and communication networks, as well as by encouraging industrialisation and meeting the country’s energy and power requirements.

He said that timely and effective implementation of CPEC projects would ensure that their full potential would be achieved in the stipulated period.

The President of Pakistan also expressed gratitude to the Chinese people and government for helping to rebuild Pakistan after the recent catastrophic floods.

He also appreciated the efforts made by the China Energy International Group to assist in the rehabilitation of flood victims in the areas of the country that were most severely impacted.

The President praised the speed at which numerous electricity and communication-related projects are progressing, but he also underlined the necessity to ensure the projects’ safety, security, durability, and soundness in order for them to properly serve the people of the country.

Additionally, he commended China Energy’s programme for focusing on and pursuing solar electricity-based projects, which he stated were inexpensive, easy to install and maintain, and providing clean and affordable energy.

On behalf of China Energy International Group, Lyu Xiufeng, General Manager, informed the President and mentioned that China Energy has been operating in Pakistan since the 1990s.

Since then, it has contributed to 21 megaprojects totaling more than USD $12 billion. He said China Energy had invested USD 3.5 billion to produce Azad Pattan 700.7 MW and Suki Kinari 870 MW.

In addition, he asserted that the business was dedicated to Pakistan’s residents’ social advancement, connectedness in the transportation system, and energy security.
