Islamabad (GNP): The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) hosted the “Beauty of the Russian Word: Russian Language Festival in Pakistan” from September 14 to 16, bringing together students, academics, educators and cultural representatives for a three-day programme focused on the Russian language, literature, history, art and cultural heritage.
NUST described the festival as a platform for educational exchange and stronger cultural ties between Pakistan and Russia.
The festival was held at NUST’s H-12 campus in Islamabad and featured lectures, exhibitions, master classes, interactive activities and cultural discussions designed to introduce participants to different aspects of Russian civilisation and language.
The opening ceremony brought together representatives from NUST, the Ural State Pedagogical University (USPU) and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Pakistan.
Welcome remarks were delivered by Dr. Hassan Jalil Shah, Principal of the Jinnah School of Public Policy and Leadership (JSPPL), along with representatives of USPU and Gleb Shubin, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan.
The speakers highlighted the importance of language and cultural education in promoting greater understanding between societies. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of Russian-language learning and cultural exchange in expanding educational cooperation and people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Russia.
The opening day featured an academic lecture titled “The History of the Russian Language: From Slavic Roots to Modernity,” giving students an overview of the development of the Russian language and its connection with broader cultural history.

Participants also took part in workshops and interactive activities, including sessions on Russian folk ornament, Russian tongue twisters and Russian songs. An exhibition titled “The Main Thing about Russia” further introduced participants to aspects of Russian culture and heritage.
The combination of lectures, practical workshops and cultural activities allowed students to engage with the subject through different forms of learning.
The programme continued on the second day with sessions connecting language to Russian literature, poetry, painting and cinema. Prof. Roman Porozov of USPU delivered a lecture on “The Russian Poetic World,” exploring Russian poetry and its cultural and intellectual dimensions.
Mr. Anton Dolgov conducted an interactive session on “Russian Literature and Painting,” examining connections between literary works and visual art.
The second day’s programme concluded with a cinema seminar on Soviet Film Classics, providing participants with another avenue for exploring Russian history and cultural expression through film.
The festival was organized in collaboration with the Ural State Pedagogical University, based in Yekaterinburg, and supported by Russian cultural and educational institutions and the Embassy of Russia in Pakistan, according to the event information shared by NUST and JSPPL.
For NUST students, the festival provided an opportunity to study Russian language and culture beyond conventional classroom instruction.
By combining academic lectures with artistic workshops, literature, music, exhibitions and cinema, the programme offered participants a broader perspective on Russian cultural heritage.
The event also highlighted the role universities can play in developing international educational and cultural exchanges.
