Islamabad, 23 November 2021 (GNP/ TDI): On Monday, 22nd November, Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan connected with the President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Muhammad Shakeel Munir.
Both discussed opportunities to strengthen trade relations between Pakistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The interaction began with ICCI President Munir expressing gratitude and friendly greetings towards the Azerbaijani ambassador. He warmly welcomed him to ICCI and noted his own satisfaction with the current diplomatic ties between both nations. Munir then proceeded to explain the workings and structure of his institution, ICCI, to the visitor. He also mentioned future events and actions ICCI is planning with regards to enhancing trade relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Farhadov commented on the strong political bond between the two countries, stressing the need to move the focus on developing economic and trade links. In this regard, he highlighted the activities carried out in recent months catering to the economic sector. Simultaneously, he urged to take further action.
Ambassador Farhadov also emphasized the significance of pinpointing specific business ventures and projects that are working to increase import-export products between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. Practical steps need to be taken to initiate discourse with the business circles of both nations. Additionally, officials must engage in direct discussions with the Azerbaijan-Pakistan Joint Commission. This is to alert and encourage them to increase activity and cooperate with each other.
Other participants of the meeting also remarked on the important role Azerbaijan’s State Oil company, SOCAR, plays in providing LNG supplies to Pakistan. This trade exchange is an integral part of Pakistan-Azerbaijan trade relations. During the meeting, views were exchanged on the possibility of continuing such activities of SOCAR in the future too.
