Manzoor Pashteen arrested in Chaman

Chaman, 5 December, 2023 (GNP): Manzoor Pashteen, the leader of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), was reportedly arrested in Chaman, Balochistan on Monday.

The arrest followed an incident where his security guards allegedly opened fire on law enforcement personnels.

The deputy commissioner commented on the incident, disclosing that security personnel, including police, Levies, and the Frontier Corps (FC), were engaged in routine checks.

The armed individuals, identified as part of the PTM chief’s convoy, allegedly refused to halt their vehicle and opened fire on the security forces.

FIR has been filed against Pashteen, as mentioned by the deputy commissioner. The PTM, in a statement, verified the incident, stating that the party chief’s vehicle was fired upon near Chaman Press Club while he was en route to Quetta after addressing a sit-in organized by the All Parties Tajir Mehnat Kash.

As per a party spokesperson, eight bullets were discharged at Pashteen’s vehicle during the incident, resulting in an injury to a woman who is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

The party chief, accompanied by his entourage, returned to Chaman and voluntarily surrendered to the authorities, as confirmed by the party spokesperson.

Jan Achakzai, the Caretaker Balochistan Information Minister, has declared the PTM as an “anti-Pakistan organization.” Additionally, he noted that Pashteen’s entry into Balochistan has been prohibited, a measure reinforced by the interior ministry through three official notifications.

There is no information about any firing. He has his own guards, and firing can also occur due to them, the minister stated.
