China expresses concern over Israel’s ongoing attacks in Syria

Beijing, 26 April 2024, (GNP:  Chia’s representative to the UN expressed strong concern over Israel’s ongoing aerial attacks in Syria on Thursday.

“Such acts constitute a grave violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. These acts will further push the regional situation to the verge of spiraling out of control,” said Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations (UN).

He informed the Security Council that it’s crucial for all parties to show restraint and avoid actions that can worsen ongoing tensions.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of major powers outside the region playing a positive role in encouraging the reduction of tensions in the area.

Regarding the situation in Syria, Geng stated that China remains a steadfast advocate for a political resolution.

He emphasized that the international community should persist in promoting a political process led and owned by the Syrian people.

Geng expressed China’s appreciation for UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen’s active involvement with the concerned parties.

He also expressed hope that the Arab League and other relevant regional nations would enhance communication and collaboration with the Syrian government, playing a positive role in advancing a political resolution.
