IHC takes action over social media campaign against Justice Babar Satar

Islamabad, 7 May 2024, (GNP): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has opted to launch contempt of court proceedings against individuals orchestrating a social media campaign aimed at Justice Babar Sattar.

This decision follows Justice Sattar’s communication with IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq regarding the propaganda circulating against him on social media.

Based on the sources, the high court has determined to transform the letter into a contempt of court case following its allocation of a diary number. They further mentioned that a bench is likely to be formed today.

A social media campaign was initiated against Justice Sattar, alleging that the high court judge possesses American citizenship. However, the IHC released a statement on April 28 refuting these allegations.

The high court clarified that Justice Sattar solely holds Pakistani citizenship and denounced the “defamatory and unfounded” campaign targeting him on social media.

“Justice Babar Sattar’s wife and children are citizens of Pakistan and the US. They were living in the US till 2021, but returned to Pakistan after Justice Babar Sattar was appointed as a judge of the IHC and now live in Islamabad.”
