Bishkek, 8 September, 2023(GNP): Kyrgyz Foreign Minister, Zheenbek Kulubaev, met with Robert Floyd, the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), on Thursday.
Robert Floyd traveled to Kyrgyzstan to take part in the Regional workshop focused on enhancing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime.
At the meeting, both parties discussed current areas of collaboration and ways to further enhance the partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the CTBTO. Robert Floyd expressed optimism about the potential of Kyrgyzstan-CTBTO partnership.

Minister Kulubaev reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment as the depositary of the Central Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty. This commitment is focused on preserving peace, rejecting violence, and preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
During the visit, Dr. R. Floyd delivered a special lecture on nuclear testing to Kyrgyz Republic’s Diplomatic Academy students. The lecture was about the CTBTO’s history, importance and accomplishments. He urged students to become part of the CTBTO Youth Group (CYG), a community of young professionals and students dedicated to promoting the CTBT and its goals.

Kyrgyz Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude for the support of CTBTO’s in setting up and operating two seismic stations in Kyrgyzstan. These stations are integral components of the International Monitoring System (IMS).
Dr. R. Floyd appreciated the hospitality of Kyrgyz people. He also commended Kyrgyzstan’s active involvement in the activities of the CTBTO. Additionally, he provided updates to Minister Z. Kulubaev regarding the recent developments and accomplishments of the CTBTO.
