Mansehra, 27 November, 2023 (GNP): A girl was reportedly killed and another rescued by the police following the circulation of their viral video on social media in the Kolai-Palas district on Sunday.
The incident unfolded in Barsharyal village of Palas, where a girl was allegedly killed by her family based on the decision of a local jirga.
The boys, visible in the videos, have been in hiding since the footage gained traction about four days ago.
Law enforcement agencies transferred the deceased girl’s body to a nearby health facility and, after medical-legal procedures were completed by doctors, returned it to her family.
A girl from the pair whose video gained notoriety on social media has been reported deceased, while the police rescued the other and transferred her to the local magistrate for recording her statement, as stated by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Palas, Masood Khan.

According to him, the girl presented before the local magistrate mentioned in her statement that she did not perceive any threat to her life from her family and expressed a preference to be with them rather than Dar-ul-Aman.
The police officer mentioned that the SHO of the Palas police station independently filed a first information report for the murder under sections 302/311 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He stated, “We have initiated an investigation to identify both those responsible for the girl’s death and those who either provided counsel or organized a jirga, pronouncing a death sentence.”
The DSP emphasized that nobody is exempt from the law, and all individuals implicated in the heinous killing will be brought to justice without compromise.
