Pakistan army eliminates eight militants in South Waziristan

South Waziristan, 27 November, 2023 (GNP): In a decisive operation, Pakistan’s military executed a targeted raid on a militant hideout situated in the former stronghold of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) near the Afghanistan border.

The mission, strategically conducted in the South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulted in a fierce firefight leading to the demise of eight insurgents.

The operation, driven by precise intelligence, took place on Sunday, with troops seizing a significant cache of weapons and ammunition during the operation.

While no specific details regarding the identities of the militants were disclosed, the modus operandi strongly points to the involvement of the Pakistani Taliban, known for their alignment with the Afghan Taliban.

The Pakistani Taliban, which has found refuge in Afghanistan after the Taliban’s assumption of power in August 2021, has been implicated in numerous attacks on Pakistani troops. This has led to escalating tensions between the two nations, compelling Pakistan to call upon the Taliban administration to prevent the TTP from using Afghan territory as a launchpad for their assaults.

In parallel developments, Pakistan has recently undertaken a crackdown on undocumented migrants, impacting a significant number of Afghans residing in the country without proper documentation.

Over 400,000 Afghans have returned to their homeland to avoid potential arrest following this initiative. However, the forced deportations have drawn criticism from the Taliban-led administration in Afghanistan and raised concerns flagged by the United Nations about potential human rights violations.
