Barcelona (GNP): FC Barcelona has completed the process to sign Portuguese youth international Dany Freire, with the 16-year-old attacking player set to formalize his move to the Catalan club after impressing during a trial period with the club’s youth setup.
The development was reported by football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who said Barcelona had reached an agreement with Freire and that the Portuguese youngster had passed his trial before signing his Barcelona contract.
Recent Spanish reporting had also indicated that the club intended to complete the move once Freire turned 16.
Freire’s move to Barcelona follows several weeks of assessment by the club. According to Mundo Deportivo, the young forward spent part of the summer training with Barcelona’s Juvenil B side and made a strong impression on the coaching staff through his performances and goals.
The club had reportedly decided to pursue his signing before he reached the age at which he could formally complete the move.
The timing of the transfer is significant because Freire, as an overseas player, could not formally sign with Barcelona before reaching the required age.
Mundo Deportivo reported that he would turn 16 on September 19, allowing the club to proceed with the formal registration process.
Freire has developed his football career in Luxembourg while representing Portugal at youth international level.
Last season, he played for Racing FC Union in Luxembourg, where he competed in the UEFA Youth League and helped his team win the Luxembourg Under-17 Cup.

Portuguese football outlet A Bola reported that Freire had scored and provided an assist in the Under-17 Cup final, while also establishing himself as a player capable of operating in different attacking positions.

Portuguese media have reported that he is currently part of Portugal’s Under-15 international setup and has played alongside other highly regarded young players.
Barcelona’s interest intensified after Freire participated in the club’s summer activities. Mundo Deportivo reported that he took part in a training camp in Tona with the youth teams and subsequently appeared in the Best Cup, where Barcelona’s Juvenil B competed against other youth sides.

During the tournament, Freire was reported to have made a particularly strong impression. He scored twice against Unión Adarve and was selected as the player of the match in one of his appearances.
Barcelona eventually finished third in the tournament after defeating Real Madrid in the third-place match.
