Pakistan, Japan Discuss Fintech and Finance Opportunities

Tokyo (GNP): Pakistan and Japan are exploring new opportunities for cooperation in fintech, digital finance, Web3, digital payments, remittances and technology investment following a meeting in Tokyo involving Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) CEO Muhammad Faisal Jeddy and representatives of Japanese technology and investment companies.

The discussion examined practical avenues for expanding Pakistan-Japan cooperation in emerging areas of financial technology and the broader digital economy.

Among the areas discussed were fintech, Web3, digital payments, remittance solutions, startup investment and technology partnerships.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to brief Japanese representatives about Pakistan’s growing technology ecosystem, startup-support mechanisms and the country’s evolving regulatory framework concerning virtual assets and digital finance.

The discussions come as Pakistan seeks to expand its technology-sector engagement with international markets and strengthen connections between domestic technology companies and global businesses.

PSEB has increasingly used international technology events and business platforms to connect Pakistani companies with overseas investors, customers and strategic partners.

Recent PSEB activity has included Pakistan’s participation in major international technology and fintech events, including Money20/20 Middle East in Riyadh and Tokyo Game Show 2026.

The Tokyo meeting focused particularly on translating broader bilateral technology relations into practical business opportunities.

Potential follow-up areas identified during the discussion include engagement with relevant Pakistani regulatory institutions, development of digital remittance solutions, investment in Pakistani startups and strategic partnerships between Japanese companies and Pakistani technology firms.

The meeting also discussed targeted matchmaking between companies from the two countries.

Such matchmaking can provide businesses with opportunities to identify potential commercial partners based on specific technologies, products and investment interests.

Digital remittances were another area of potential cooperation. Remittances remain an important part of Pakistan’s external financial flows, while technological developments in payments and financial services are creating new ways of transferring money across borders.

For Japanese companies, Pakistan’s expanding technology ecosystem could provide opportunities for partnerships in software development, financial technology, cybersecurity and other digital services.

For Pakistani companies, engagement with Japanese firms can provide access to international markets, investment, technical expertise and potential technology partnerships.

The meeting also comes against the backdrop of broader efforts to strengthen Pakistan-Japan cooperation in information and communications technology.

A recent discussion involving PSEB CEO Faisal Jeddy and Japanese technology stakeholders examined areas including business matchmaking, bridge-engineer development, Japanese-language training, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and robotics.

The latest fintech-focused engagement adds financial technology and digital finance to this expanding area of bilateral cooperation.

Pakistan’s technology sector has also been seeking greater international visibility through participation in global industry platforms.

At Money20/20 Middle East 2026, PSEB brought six Pakistani technology companies to Riyadh, representing capabilities in digital payments, RegTech, digital lending, transaction processing, open banking, capital markets and banking automation.

The Tokyo discussions indicate that fintech cooperation between Pakistan and Japan could extend beyond conventional technology exports to include investment, financial infrastructure and joint digital solutions.

Follow-up engagement with regulators, startups and technology companies could determine how the ideas discussed in Tokyo translate into concrete projects.

For both countries, the development of secure digital payments, cross-border financial services and technology partnerships represents an area where business cooperation can complement wider bilateral relations.
