Islamabad GNP: Players and match officials in the Pakistan Super League are wearing pink caps and ribbons in today’s matches as part of a special awareness initiative. Here’s the reason behind the symbolic gesture.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dedicated April 16 to raising awareness about breast cancer, continuing a tradition that has now entered its eighth consecutive season in the PSL. The initiative, commonly referred to as “Pink Day,” aims to highlight the importance of early detection and support for those affected by the disease.
In an official statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced that the event is being organized in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Hospital, Pakistan’s first dedicated breast cancer charity hospital. As part of this partnership, free breast cancer screening services have been arranged for women in Lahore from April 13 to 18, promoting accessible healthcare and early diagnosis.
Pink Day activities are taking place at National Bank Stadium, where all participating players, match officials, PCB representatives, and team owners are visibly supporting the cause by wearing pink-themed attire. The stadium itself reflects the initiative, with pink stumps and specially designed broadcast graphics reinforcing the message across digital and television platforms.
At 8pm PKT, the cricket community across Pakistan is set to unite on the social media platform X, sharing messages of awareness and solidarity using the official hashtag #GoPink. Fans are also being encouraged to participate by posting their own thoughts and support for the campaign.
Adding further significance to the initiative, several Pakistan women’s cricketers including Syeda Aroob Shah, Rameen Shamim, Muneeba Ali, and captain Fatima Sana were invited to train with PSL teams ahead of the matches, highlighting unity across men’s and women’s cricket.
