Tokayev farewells President Rahmon after a productive visit

The visit highlighted the commitment of both nations to mutual cooperation, economic development, and cultural exchange.

Astana, 28 Aug, 2023(GNP): President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan wrapped up his working visit to Kazakhstan on Monday. The head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, warmly bid farewell to him at the capital airport.

On August 25, 2023, President Rahmon arrived in Astana for a working visit. During the visit, the presidents held high-level talks and participated in events planned for Tajikistan’s Cultural Days in Kazakhstan.

The two leaders conducted bilateral talks in both narrow and expanded formats. The discussions covered a broad range of subjects including the trade, economy, transportation, logistics, agriculture, energy, finance, culture, and humanitarian matters.

They also discussed regional security, stability, and the situation in Afghanistan.

During the visit, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Emomali Rahmon held a meeting in the Digital Government Office. During the meeting a Memorandum of Understanding was signed. Under this memorandum, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development will share its e-government experience with Tajikistan’s Ministry of Industry.

President Tokayev also thanked President Rahmon for ensuring steady water and electricity supply to Kazakhstan. He also commended the successful execution of the May 2023 Declaration on Allied Cooperation between the two nations.

Amid the visit, the leaders of the two nations explored a diverse display of rural crafts, artistic creations, and handicrafts. This was part of Tajikistan’s Cultural Days in Kazakhstan. President Rahmon expressed his gratitude to President Tokayev for his hospitality and backing of the Tajik Culture Days in Astana.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Emomali Rahmon also visited the exhibition of folk art of Tajikistan. The exhibition featured over 200 crafted items made from stone, wood, clay, and precious metals. Paintings by well-known Tajik artists were also on display in the exhibition.

On August 26, 2023, President Tokayev and President Rahmon visited the main mosque in Astana (Astana Grand Mosque). The Tajik president departed from Astana on the same day after completing the visit.
