Rs516.8 million fine imposed on electricity thieves

Faisalabad, 4 December, 2023 (GNP): FESCO spokesman Tahir Sheikh announced on Sunday that, as per the special directive from the Minister of Energy (Power Division), FESCO initiated an intensive anti-theft campaign.

In the span of 86 days, the company’s anti-theft teams apprehended 4,354 individuals involved in power pilferage across its eight districts.

The company applied a cumulative fine of Rs.516.8 million on the pilferers, categorizing it under the detection units, which amounted to 11.196 million. Additionally, the company successfully recovered Rs.336.8 million from the individuals involved.

FESCO also registered cases against 4,137 accused individuals. Whereas the police has apprehended 3,614 electricity thieves to date, according to Tahir Sheikh.

Providing additional information, he explained that FESCO teams identified electricity theft at 1,385 points in Faisalabad district. Subsequently, fines totaling Rs.163.1 million were imposed on them, categorized under the head of 3,530,000 detection units.

In Jhang district, FESCO teams apprehended 481 electricity thieves, imposing a fine of Rs.65 million under 1,584,000 detection units.

He also added that 446 electricity thieves were apprehended in Chiniot district, and they were subjected to a fine of Rs.63 million, categorized under 1,375,000 detection units.

Khushab district witnessed the identification of 123 consumers engaged in electricity theft. They were subsequently fined Rs.17.8 million, marked under 363,000 detection units.

Sargodha district recorded the detection of 472 cases of electricity theft, leading to a fine of Rs.49.9 million imposed on the culprits under 1,053,000 detection units.

FESCO’s teams also caught 333 electricity thieves in Toba Tek Singh district, resulting in a Rs.38.3 million fine for 757,000 detection units, as mentioned by the spokesperson.
