Private jet crash claimed 10 lives in Malaysia

The aircraft was flying from Langkawi Island to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Selangor, which is close to Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur, 17 Aug, 2023 (GNP): In a devastating incident, a small private aircraft crashed on a highway on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, resulting in the loss of at least ten lives. The incident occurred when a Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) aircraft, a light private chartered plane, crashed into a motorbike and a car, claiming the lives of all eight people on board and two individuals on the ground.

The aircraft was en route from the island of Langkawi to Selangor’s Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport near Kuala Lumpur. Tragically, just moments before its scheduled landing, the aircraft deviated from its flight path and crashed into the Elmina township, leaving behind a scene of destruction.

According to Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, there was no emergency call made, and the aircraft had received clearance to land. The incident has left the nation in shock, as witnesses reported that the plane exploded upon impact. The bodies of the victims have been transported to a local hospital for identification.

Later police reported that the black box cockpit voice recorder was recovered.

Among the deceased was Johari Harun, a 53-year-old senior politician in the government of the central state of Pahang. His assistant was also killed.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Malaysia has witnessed its share of aviation tragedies over the years, including the infamous disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in 2014 and the tragic crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in Ukraine the same year.

According to the sources, there have been five Beechcraft aircraft crashes in Malaysia since 1977, including the Thursday’s crash.
