President Arif Alvi urges unity and progress on Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day

The President drew inspiration from the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

Islamabad, 15 Aug, 2023 (GNP): On the occasion of Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day celebration, President Arif Alvi delivered a compelling message, calling upon the nation’s leaders and stakeholders to embrace forgiveness and unity.

The President drew inspiration from the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), emphasizing the significance of unity, faith, and discipline.

At the Convention Center in Islamabad, the President hoisted the national flag during the main ceremony. President Alvi reiterated the importance of following Quaid Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s principles of unity, faith, and discipline to drive the nation’s progress and development.

President Alvi underscored the necessity of justice, meritocracy, and unity for Pakistan’s growth. He emphasized that unity defines a nation and expressed optimism about Pakistan’s potential for rapid development in the coming years.

The President stressed the critical role of Islamic values and core principles in the nation’s progress. Additionally, he called for ending nepotism, urging meritocracy and comprehensive justice to advance socio-economic conditions.

In his address, President Alvi emphasized caring for the poor and promoting education to alleviate poverty. He regretfully highlighted that 27 million children are out of school and urged the affluent to contribute to their education.

The President also highlighted the vital role of women in economic activities, emphasizing their inclusion for high growth rates and better societal outcomes.

President Alvi held that ensuring women’s safety is paramount, both on the roads and in workplaces. He reminded the audience of their responsibility to create a secure environment for women.

Paying tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s founders, the President underscored the importance of recalling their efforts to strengthen the nation’s resolve. He praised Pakistan’s armed forces and citizens for their ongoing sacrifices.

Moreover, President Alvi condemned Islamophobia and advocated for harmony amid global challenges such as climate change.

Regarding the situation in Indian-Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), President Alvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Kashmiri brothers and sisters. He urged the international community to address the dispute per UN Security Council Resolutions.

The President expressed gratitude to friendly nations, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, China, Iran, and Turkiye, for their unwavering support.

The flag-hoisting ceremony was attended amongst others by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
