Foreign Minister Bilawal commits to strengthen ties with ASEAN

ASEAN is today a central pillar of regional architecture, Bilawal said.

Islamabad, 9 Aug, 2023 (GNP): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Pakistan wished for a powerful and progressive Southeast Asia, which is fundamentally important for the stability and development of the whole continent, on Tuesday.

The foreign minister stated in a message on the 56th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), “The more connected and united we are, the more able we would be in overcoming our collective challenges and prospering together as a region.”

While extending his heartfelt congratulations to the ASEAN’s member states on behalf of the government and citizens of Pakistan, Bilawal expressed that his country shared ASEAN’s policy of harmony and cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Moreover, the foreign minister said in an official press release, “We believe that an integrated Asia promises a prosperous future for all. Pakistan has, therefore, endeavored to develop partnerships all across the continent — particularly with ASEAN countries.”

Furthermore, Bilawal stated that the ASEAN was formed as a unique platform for regional collaboration in Southeast Asia.

“Premised on the core principles of cooperation, amity and non-interference, ASEAN had matured over the last 56 years as a leading organization for peace and development in the region,” he added.

Bilawal further said that the “ASEAN way” of diplomatic cooperation provided a layout for regional peace and cooperation.

The foreign minister reiterated, “ASEAN is today a central pillar of regional architecture.”

Bilawal commented that Pakistan’s relations with ASEAN countries had kept on growing with great potential for boosted cooperation in the prime sectors such as trade, tourism, agriculture, information technology and maritime cooperation.
