PM Shehbaz honors martyrs and ghazis in farewell visit to GHQ

Shuhadas and Ghazis are the pride of our nation and it's our shared responsibility to honor and respect them, said PM Shehbaz.

Islamabad, 8 Aug, 2023 (GNP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif undertook a farewell visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone during his tenure as the nation’s leader.

Warmly received by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, the visit to GHQ featured moving ceremonies and heartfelt tributes to the nation’s fallen heroes.

During his visit, the prime minister engaged with Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) and received a Guard of Honour. He laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, an act of homage to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

A special ceremony held at the Army Auditorium, attended by PM Shehbaz as the chief guest, commemorated the Shuhada (martyrs) and Ghazis (warriors). Additionally, he deeply honored their families for the immense sacrifices they made in defense of the motherland.

Moreover, PM Shehbaz lauded the armed forces’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and effectively combating terrorism across Pakistan.

He stated, “Shuhadas and Ghazis are the pride of our nation,” and it’s our shared responsibility to honor and respect them. Our peace and freedom today are a direct result of their brave sacrifices.

He further remarked, “I salute their families for sacrificing their loved ones for Pakistan. It is now our earnest duty that we realise the supreme sacrifices of our Shuhadas and Ghazis for the prosperity and well-being of each Pakistani.”

Addressing those who defile monuments of Shuhada, the premier emphasized that such acts would forever darken their place in Pakistan’s history, and the resilient people of Pakistan would not forget them.

In a gesture of support, the prime minister distributed Special Financial Assistance cheques to 70 families of martyrs and 30 War Wounded Persons. Laptops were also presented to the children of Shuhada who are pursuing their education.
