The goal of the summit was to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Islamabad, 8 Aug, 2023 (GNP): Pakistan has wholeheartedly endorsed Saudi Arabia’s effort, to organize a key summit in Jeddah. Over 40 countries gathered for this important event to discuss a peace plan led by Ukraine and its allies.

The goal of the summit was to find a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office, reaffirmed the country’s strong commitment to promoting peace and talks between Russia and Ukraine. Additionally, she praised Saudi Arabia for trying to create helpful conversations and finding common ground to achieve lasting peace.

The Jeddah summit is the second one of its kind, after a similar meeting in Copenhagen earlier in the summer. It aimed to outline key principles to put an end to Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict.

Baloch addressed questions about the recent Indian Supreme Court hearing on Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. Furthermore, she restated Pakistan’s position, saying that the world sees Jammu and Kashmir as disputed territory, waiting for a resolution based on United Nations decisions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Reiterating Pakistan’s strong stance, Baloch emphasized that Pakistan doesn’t recognize India’s control of Kashmir. She rejected any rule by India, including Article 370. Pakistan is still deeply concerned about India’s unilateral measures since 2019 that aims to change the political and demographic environment of Indian-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK). These actions are considered unacceptable since they are perceived as an effort to weaken the Kashmiri population.

Moreover, Pakistan urges an end to these actions to create an environment that is favorable to peace and discussion. Baloch strongly repeated Pakistan’s commitment to the right of the Kashmiri people to decide for themselves. She stressed the need of a peaceful resolution and the significance of international agreement to achieve long-lasting peace in the region.
