Tehran (GNP): Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, has stated that ongoing negotiations with Oman are focused specifically on establishing a safe shipping route, clarifying that this issue remains separate from broader discussions regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Responding to a query concerning compensation plans for shipping activity through the Strait, Baqaei referenced earlier remarks by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, noting that the current round of talks with Oman is centred on reaching an understanding for safe passage through the waterway, rather than addressing the wider question of reopening the strait itself.

Baqaei further stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains insecure due to a separate set of underlying factors, adding that resolving the situation would require addressing violations he attributed to the United States, including what he described as an ongoing naval blockade affecting the region.
He also linked the broader resolution of tensions surrounding the Strait to compliance with commitments made under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, asserting that addressing alleged violations of that agreement by the United States remains a necessary step toward resolving the wider crisis.
