Beijing, 5 September, 2023(GNP): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani. The meeting took place in Beijing on Monday. The two foreign ministers held talks regarding bilateral relations and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). They also addressed matters of international and regional significance that are of mutual interest.
Foreign minister Wang Yi emphasized that, despite facing geopolitical challenges, China and Italy should prioritize a constructive approach to their relationship. This approach should be characterized by mutual respect, trust, openness, cooperation, and equal dialogue.
China is ready to collaborate with Italy to implement key agreements, strengthen high-level exchanges, solidify the political foundation, boost practical cooperation, enhance people-to-people ties, and ensure steady growth in China-Italy relations, said Wang Yi.

Foreign minister Antonio Tajani expressed Italy’s strong commitment to develop enduring and stable relations with China. He also said that Italy follows the One-China policy and is eager to have more important meetings and work closely with China in different areas.
Antonio Tajani also expressed that Italy support multilateralism and global governance. Italy is ready to work with China to support the worldwide system based on the United Nations rules and international laws. Together, they will tackle global issues such as climate change, terrorism, and regional conflicts.

Despite the current international volatility, the relationship between Italy and China will remain unaffected by it, said Italian foreign minister. He also affirmed Italy’s commitment to advancing cooperation with China in various fields, including trade, investment, culture, science and technology, and healthcare.
After the meeting, the two foreign ministers also participated in the closing ceremony of the 11th Joint Meeting of the China-Italy Government Committee. This committee, established in 2004, serves as a high-level mechanism for bilateral cooperation.
