Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani visits Kazakhstan to enhance bilateral cooperation

Both parties affirmed their strategic partnership and cooperation, expressing optimism for ongoing collaboration.

Astana, 5 September, 2023(GNP): Antonio Tajani, the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, visited Kazakhstan on Tuesday. The primary objectives of his visit were to enhance the political, economic, and cultural collaboration between the two nations. The visit provided a chance to review the progress of the joint projects initiated in recent years.

Kazakhstan and Italy have significantly expanded their bilateral relations in recent years. This include various sectors such as politics, trade, investments, culture, humanitarian work, science and technology, and tourism. Their collaboration also encompasses a wide range of issues, including international and local matters.

During the visit, Antonio Tajani also met with Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Alihan Smailov, further strengthening the bonds between the two nations.

Italy and Kazakhstan are significant trading partners in Europe, with a focus on sectors like energy, natural resources, construction, infrastructure, transportation, agriculture, and scientific-technical services.

Joint statement

According to the joint statement released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan both the countries reaffirmed their commitment for several initiatives including:

  • Engagement of Kazakhstan and Italy in the development of hydrogen related value chain for the purposes of the dual green and digital transition.
  • Advancing cooperation for the development of new technologies utilizing the critical materials, strategic raw materials and rare earths with which Kazakhstan is endowed.
  • Attracting private capital and new investments my taking into account the MoU signed between Kazakhstan and EU on a strategic partnership on sustainable raw materials, batteries and renewable hydrogen value chain, signed in Sharm El-Sheikh on 7 November 2022, aimed at integrating strategic value chains in technology and development sectors; as well as aligning their environmental, social and governance standards.
  • Materializing the common will of both the countries for de-carbonization through the use of renewable energies and green hydrogen.
