BISP recipients to get Rs9000 from now onwards

The government has raised the amount of BISP by 25 per cent, Shazia Marri.

Islamabad, 19 June, 2023 (GNP) The Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Shazia Marri on Sunday stated that the recipients of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will begin to get Rs9000 from Monday onwards.

Marri, who is also the chairperson of the programmme said that the government has raised the amount of BISP by 25 per cent, making it to Rs9,000 per family, for the fourth quarter of the current financial year.

The federal minister said that the amount will be provided to 9 million recipients and for the comfort of the beneficiaries 1,559 campsites have been set-up specifically for stipend distribution.

She stated that people should acquire the full amount assigned for them and they should collect its receipt as well.

Furthermore, Marri also stated that the ministry has also issued the amount for the January to March payment of the educational scholarships, mothers of children with more than 70% attendance can ask for this stipend.

The BISP is a pilot project of the government and carries out various schemes for the welfare of the unprivileged sector of the society.

Meanwhile, the federal government raised the BISP’s budget by 25% to Rs450 billion in comparison to the budgeting of Rs360 billion in previous fiscal year.

However, the government had already escalated the budget allowance for the programme up to Rs400 billion in the middle of the last fiscal year, displaying a raise of 12.5 percent.

In the financial year 2023-24, 9.3 million families would be provided quarterly aid. The range of Benazir Education Stipends was also raised from six million children (52 per cent girls) recipients to 8.3 million children with a grant of Rs55 billion.
