OVERVIEW OF AZERBAIJAN-US RELATIONS

The United States and Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations in 1992, following Azerbaijan’s independence from the Soviet Union. Since then, both countries have collaborated to fend off terrorism and transnational threats as well as expand bilateral trade and investment. Both sides also work to promote European energy security.

Azerbaijan-US flags merged into one another, symbolizing friendship.

America is particularly invested in helping Azerbaijan pursue an effective and sustainable political situation to the conflict with Armenia. It strongly supports finding a lasting answer to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
