Rawalpindi (GNP): A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Nadeem Nasir to review the effective and transparent implementation of the federal government’s petrol subsidy in the district.
According to a post by the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, the meeting brought together senior district administration officials, Assistant Commissioners and representatives of petrol pumps to discuss implementation of the relief measure and matters connected with its delivery to eligible consumers.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Enforcement Abdul Rehman Khan, Assistant Commissioners and representatives of petrol stations attended the meeting.
The discussions focused on ensuring that the subsidy mechanism is implemented effectively and that beneficiaries can access the relief through participating fuel stations.
The meeting comes as Pakistan’s federal government continues the rollout of its Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme, under which eligible consumers are being provided petrol at a subsidised rate.
The federal government has said that petrol is being provided at a relief rate of Rs100 per litre under the scheme.
The subsidy programme was introduced amid a sharp increase in fuel costs and wider disruptions affecting energy markets. The government announced the scheme for eligible lower-income motorists, including motorcyclists, rickshaw and Chingchi users and owners or users of vehicles up to 800cc.
The initial implementation of the scheme faced difficulties at some petrol stations. Reports on the first day of nationwide rollout indicated that some dealers were reluctant to provide subsidised petrol because of concerns about the digital mechanism and reimbursement arrangements.
The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association subsequently held discussions with government representatives regarding the mechanism.
Following those talks, petroleum dealers began implementing the relief package, with the reimbursement process forming a central issue in discussions between the government and fuel retailers.
Against this background, the Rawalpindi administration’s meeting focuses on implementation at the district level.

The participation of Assistant Commissioners and petrol-pump representatives provides a mechanism for identifying operational issues and coordinating between district authorities and fuel retailers.

The latest meeting chaired by Captain (R) Nadeem Nasir therefore represents a district-level administrative effort to coordinate the implementation of the federal relief programme.
