FIA (GNP): The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Formula 1 have announced the 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar, setting out a season featuring 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries and 10 Sprint events.
The calendar was announced following approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council. It will take Formula 1 across five continents, combining established venues with the return of two countries to the championship calendar, Portugal and Türkiye.
Pre-season testing is scheduled to take place at the Bahrain International Circuit from February 24 to 27, 2027.
Bahrain will then host the opening Grand Prix of the season, followed by Saudi Arabia. The championship will continue to Australia, Japan and China before moving to North America for the Miami and Canadian Grands Prix.
One of the notable changes to the 2027 schedule is the return of Portugal. Formula 1 will return to the Algarve region in June, with the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve at Portimão joining the calendar after its previous appearances in 2020 and 2021.
Formula 1 has confirmed a multi-year agreement for Portugal covering 2027 and 2028. Türkiye will also return to the championship in October.
The Turkish Grand Prix will be held at Istanbul Park, which has a five-year agreement to host Formula 1 through the 2031 season. The circuit previously hosted nine Grands Prix, including races in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 period.
Istanbul Park first appeared on the Formula 1 calendar in 2005 and is known for its elevation changes and the long, multi-apex Turn 8. Its return places Türkiye between the Azerbaijan and Singapore rounds in the 2027 calendar.
Another major feature of the 2027 championship will be the expansion of the Sprint format. The number of Sprint events will increase from six in 2026 to 10 in 2027.
Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco and Abu Dhabi will host Sprint events for the first time, while Montréal, Silverstone, Monza, São Paulo and Lusail will host returning Sprint weekends.
Formula 1 said the increase follows continued interest in the Sprint format. According to Formula 1, data since the introduction of Sprint events in 2021 shows that Sprint weekends have recorded higher total viewership than non-Sprint weekends.
Formula 1 also reported that 82% of attendees at Sprint weekends surveyed said the format added value to their tickets. The 2027 calendar also includes a geographical sequence designed to group races more efficiently.
After the European part of the season, the championship will move to Asia and the Middle East before concluding with races in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
FIA said the scheduling approach supports its longer-term sustainability objectives by improving the geographical flow of events.

The final stage of the championship will feature Austin, Mexico City, São Paulo and Las Vegas, followed by Qatar and Abu Dhabi. The season will therefore maintain the 24-race structure while introducing returning venues and additional Sprint competition.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the calendar reflects Formula 1’s international reach, highlighting the 24 Grands Prix, the return of Portugal and Türkiye, and the expanded Sprint programme.
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali also welcomed the returning venues and the increase in Sprint events.
With 22 countries, 24 Grands Prix and 10 Sprint events, the 2027 Formula One calendar sets out another international season of motor racing, with Portugal and Türkiye returning and several circuits preparing to host Sprint weekends for the first time.
