Beijing (GNP): China has deployed its Fengyun meteorological satellites to conduct coordinated observations of Typhoon Dolphin, providing important meteorological data to support weather monitoring, forecasting and emergency preparedness.
The satellites, developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST), are being used to track the typhoon as it develops over the northwestern Pacific and moves toward China’s coastal areas.
The coordinated observations are designed to provide meteorological authorities with continuous information on the storm’s development and movement.
Among the satellites involved are Fengyun-4C and Fengyun-4B, which are operating together to monitor Typhoon Dolphin from its formation over the open ocean through its approach toward the Chinese coast.
The satellite-based observations can help authorities assess changes in the storm and improve the availability of timely information for disaster-prevention efforts.
Fengyun-4C is positioned at approximately 133 degrees east longitude and provides broad-coverage, high-frequency and continuous atmospheric observations.
According to information from SAST, the satellite is particularly positioned to observe weather systems developing over the typhoon-prone waters of the northwestern Pacific.
The use of multiple meteorological satellites highlights China’s growing reliance on space-based technologies for weather forecasting and disaster-risk management.
Continuous satellite observations can provide meteorological agencies with valuable information on storm intensity, movement and atmospheric conditions, supporting decisions related to public warnings and emergency response.
Typhoons can pose significant risks to coastal communities through strong winds, heavy rainfall, flooding and other associated hazards.
Timely meteorological information therefore plays an important role in allowing authorities and communities to prepare for potentially severe weather conditions.

China’s Fengyun satellite programme has also developed into an important component of the country’s broader meteorological observation capabilities.
The latest coordinated monitoring of Typhoon Dolphin demonstrates how satellite technology is being integrated into operational weather forecasting and disaster preparedness.
The observations of Typhoon Dolphin are expected to provide continued data as the storm evolves and approaches China’s coastal region.
The information collected through the Fengyun satellite system will assist meteorological authorities in maintaining close surveillance of the typhoon and assessing its potential impacts.
The deployment reflects the increasing importance of advanced Earth observation technology in strengthening national weather monitoring systems and improving preparedness for extreme weather events
