NEW DELHI (GNP): Leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) have warned they may resume nationwide protests, alleging that the Indian government has breached an agreement not to take police action against protestors following the movement’s recent suspension.
CJP member Ashutosh Ranka said in a statement addressed to BJP president J.P. Nadda and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh that hundreds of students have been arrested in Bihar and West Bengal, while hundreds more are allegedly being surveilled or harassed in Delhi and other states. He said multiple reports have also emerged of volunteers who supported protestors with logistics being detained in Delhi.
Ranka demanded that all First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against protestors be withdrawn immediately, that detained students be released, and that no future FIRs be filed against protestors by Delhi police, central investigative agencies, or police in BJP-allied states. He said failure to comply would force the CJP to resume its protest.
He further demanded that the government share a written agreement outlining legal case timelines by Tuesday.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das echoed those concerns in a separate statement, saying the party has received multiple reports of students and other protestors being targeted, detained, or arrested by state agencies, particularly in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar.
Das said the CJP called off its nationwide protest only after the Government of India assured the party that no punitive action would be taken against protestors, either immediately or in the future, in any BJP-ruled or NDA-ruled state. He said the reports now emerging from those states are a matter of grave concern.
He said the CJP’s legal team has been coordinating with lawyers in the affected states since the first day of the protest to help secure the release of detained individuals and provide legal assistance.
Das called on the Government of India, specifically Nadda and Singh, to honour its earlier assurance by securing the release of those detained and ensuring no coercive or retaliatory action is taken against protestors anywhere in the country. He said the FIRs registered against protestors should also be withdrawn.
He reminded the government of its commitment to provide a written guarantee on the matter by Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

Das said the CJP’s decision to suspend its protest was made in good faith, based solely on the government’s assurance that it would honour its word. He said any departure from that assurance would represent a breach of trust not only with the CJP but with the large number of young Indians who chose dialogue over continued protest.
He added that such a breach would be unacceptable to the youth involved in the movement, and said a government’s credibility rests not on the promises it makes but on the promises it keeps.
Addressing protestors directly, Das said the CJP remains in close contact with them and continues to monitor the situation. He said the party expects the Government of India and BJP and NDA-led state governments to act with urgency and good faith given the current circumstances.
Das reiterated the CJP’s demand that all detainees be released immediately, and in any case by Tuesday, and that all FIRs be withdrawn without delay, adding that the party would take further steps if those demands are not met.
