Pakistan and Sudan Agree to Sign MoU to Fight Cybercrime

Islamabad (GNP): Pakistan and Sudan have decided to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in combating cybercrime, the Ministry of Interior said on Saturday.

The decision came during delegation-level talks at the Ministry of Interior between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and visiting Sudanese Interior Minister Lt Gen Babiker Samra Mustafa Ali. Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry also attended.

The Sudanese minister said his country wants to benefit from Pakistan’s expertise and experience in tackling cybercrime. That request set the tone for a wider discussion, and both sides agreed to expand cooperation in security, internal affairs, police training and institutional cooperation.

Cooperation with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) also featured in the agreed areas. Naqvi told his guest that with NADRA’s help, Sudan has received 36 million citizenship cards, 9 million national identity cards, 18 million birth certificates and 500,000 death certificates. He said NADRA is ready to continue supporting the civil registration process.

Naqvi also offered professional training for Sudanese police officers. On health, he said Sudanese citizens can use medical facilities in Pakistan and will be given every possible facility in that sector.

The talks turned to a personal concern as well. When the Sudanese minister raised the visa problems faced by married Sudanese women in Pakistan, Naqvi ordered their immediate resolution.

The Sudanese minister described Pakistan as a brotherly country and said Sudan attaches great importance to cooperation with it in all fields. He thanked Pakistan for its support and expressed a desire to promote ties in more sectors.

The meeting followed a busy run of engagements during his visit. A day earlier, he met Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation. On Thursday, he met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and commended Pakistan’s support on international forums for efforts to restore peace and security in Sudan.

Naqvi said, “Pakistan is ready to extend all possible cooperation to Sudan in peace-building and reconstruction.”
