Islamabad (GNP): To celebrate the spirit of the FIFA World Cup and promote friendship through sports, two exhibition football matches were organized at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad, between the Diplomatic Team and the Pakistan Veterans Team.
The event was organized by Mr. Mubasher Sanjrani, former international footballer and Chairman of the Islamabad Veterans Football Association.
The Diplomatic Team featured players representing more than 24 different nationalities, while the Pakistan Veterans Team comprised experienced former professional footballers from Islamabad. The matches showcased sportsmanship, cultural exchange, and the unifying power of football.
The Diplomatic Team won the opening match with an impressive 3–1 victory, while the Pakistan Veterans Team responded by winning the second match 5–3. Both matches were played using the original FIFA Trionda World Cup football, proudly manufactured in Pakistan, highlighting the country’s contribution to the global football community.
Among the distinguished participants were H.E. Mr. Paulo Domingues, Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Mr. Eduard Preda, Romanian DHM, and several other diplomats, all of whom actively took part in the matches, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening friendship and cooperation through sports.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Nawabzada Jamal Raisani, also played for the Pakistan Veterans Team. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the friendly matches reflected Pakistan’s identity as a sports-loving and welcoming nation that brings people from different countries together through the promotion of sports, friendship, and mutual understanding.

The organizers expressed their sincere appreciation to all participating diplomats, players, spectators, supporters, volunteers, and event partners for making the celebration a memorable success. At the conclusion of the event, World Cup commemorative trophies and awards were presented to the distinguished guests and members of both participating teams in recognition of their contribution to the success of the exhibition matches.
