Washington, 25 June, 2023 (GNP): The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced the launch of a public working group on generative artificial intelligence (AI) to help address the opportunities and risks of generative AI. The working group will draw on technical experts from the private and public sectors, said NIST.
Furthermore, the working group will be chaired by NIST Director Laurie Locascio. “This new group is especially timely considering the unprecedented speed, scale and potential impact of generative AI and its potential to revolutionize many industries and society more broadly,” Locascio said.

The usage of generative AI, which can generate text and images and whose influence has been compared to that of the internet, has sparked a scramble among regulators across the world to develop regulations.
Moreover, an “AI Risk Management Framework” has already been developed by NIST. This approach aids the agency in controlling the threats that AI could pose to people, businesses, and society.
This week, President Joe Biden said that he would seek expert advice because he felt it was important to address the risks that artificial intelligence poses to both the economy and national security.
Despite all of its advantages, Big Tech companies like Apple and Google are beginning to worry about AI. Both companies have restricted their employees from using AI chatbots or sharing confidential information with it.
