US look forward to work with caretaker government

Washington, 16 Aug, 2023 (GNP): The United States stated that it is ready to go ahead with the caretaker government in Pakistan on matters of mutual interest along with the execution of fair and free polls.

During a press briefing, the principal deputy spokesperson of the State Department said, “We look forward to working with the interim prime minister and his team as they prepare to hold elections.”

He expressed that the US was well informed about the coalition government’s dissolution and the selection of Senator Anwar Kakar as caretaker prime minister.

The spokesperson also commented, “We, of course, will continue to partner with Pakistan on areas of mutual interest including our interest on Pakistan’s economic stability, prosperity and stability and the conduct of free and fair elections in the respect for democracy and rule of law.”

While responding to a query, he asserted that the US was engaging in regular communication with Pakistani leadership to comprehensively discuss Afghanistan together with both countries’ counterterrorism dialogue and other bilateral discussions.

“We have a shared interest with Pakistan, quite candidly, in combating threats to regional stability and remain ready to work with Pakistan to combat militant and terrorist groups,” the spokesperson added.

Moreover, he remarked that the US also encourages the Pakistani government’s efforts to counter terrorism and protect its people in a way that upholds the rule of law.
