‘Million-Man March’ in Baghdad against US presence in Iraq

Baghdad-Iraq, 24th January 2020 (GNP) : Muqtada al-Sadr, Iraqi Shia cleric called for a "peaceful, unified demonstration to condemn the American presence and its violations.” Friday, Iraqi demonstrators filled the streets of Baghdad taking part in a "million-man march” calling for the US to end its military presence in Iraq.

"The US occupation has taken everything from us. We have nothing left,” told one of the protesters to Al Jazeera. "Since 2003, we have been stripped from our basic dignity and right to live a normal life. We’re living in decrepit houses; we have no jobs, no salaries. We don’t want America here,” added another.
The US military presence in Iraq has become the most significant issue in the country since a US drone attack assassinated Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis on January 3 outside Baghdad’s international airport. (GNP)
