Parliamentary Elections in Uzbekistan in December
Tashkent, 13 October 2019 (GNP): After the last parliamentary elections in 2014, Uzbekistan is preparing for parliamentary and local council elections in the country scheduled to be held from December 22 this year. There are five official political parties, the Social Democratic Party, Liberal Democratical Party of Uzbekistan, The National Revival Party and People’s Democratic Party and the Ecological Party will be competing for the 150 seats in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan ( the lower house of the parliament). It is reported that a new motto of "New Uzbekistan, new elections” will be used since the new PResident took over after the death of President Islam Karimov. There are over 20 million registered voters who will use their right to choose their representatives from the country.
At the same day elections for the regional, city and district councils will also be held. After the elections, the Senate ( upper house of the Parliament) will be formed. Many national and international observers will be invited from the region and across the globe to observe the elections. (GNP)
