Ashgabat, 13: October 2019 (GNP): A unanimous decision was made at the CIS Heads of the State Council’s session in Ashgabat Turkmenistan to host the next Summit meeting of the Council of the Heads of STATes of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in Uzbekistan in October 2020. Uzbekistan is also the next Country Chairman of the CIS. While speaking on the occasion, President of Uzbekistan said that Uzbekistan advocates for accelerated adoption of the updates concepts of CIS development. Explaining about the priority areas that Uzbekistan will focus on while being the Country Chairman of the CIS, President Mirziyoyev said that Uzbekistan considers scientific and technical cooperation as a priority area apart from strengthening economic, trade, transport and logistics amongst the countries fo the region.
Important areas that Uzbekistan has outlined to work together with counterparts is about regional peace and stability, drug trafficking, cross border challenges, and emerging terrorism. According to reports, about 60 different events have been planned to organize during the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the Commonwealth of Independent States. This will include the first forum of the regions of the countries and a meeting of heads of commerce and industry. (GNP)
