President of Uzbekistan arrived in Baku upon invitation

The visit has not only reinforced the strategic partnership across diverse sectors but also witnessed the inauguration of the Supreme Interstate Council.

Baku, 23 Aug, 2023 (GNP): Upon receiving an invitation from President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his wife arrived in Baku on a state visit.

Upon arrival at Heydar Aliyev Airport in the capital, the head of the state was welcomed by Yaqub Eyyubov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, alongside other officials. A ceremonial guard of honor was also organized to pay tribute to the esteemed visitors.

The purpose of this visit is to enhance the strategic partnership and collaboration across multiple domains, including trade, energy, transportation, culture, education, security, and regional matters, between these two nations.

In a joint ceremony, the two Presidents inaugurated the Supreme Interstate Council, an entity designed to provide a platform for addressing and resolving shared concerns between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. The composition of the Supreme Interstate Council includes the two Presidents, Prime Ministers, Parliamentary Speakers, and other senior officials from both nations.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has expressed contentment over the establishment of the Supreme Interstate Council between his country and Azerbaijan. He said that this serves as a testament to the mutual trust and respect shared between the two countries. He further said, “It will pave the way for new possibilities of cooperation in various fields”.

He also acknowledged Azerbaijan’s rapid economic progress and successful efforts in restoring its territorial integrity. Additionally, he affirmed that Uzbekistan supports Azerbaijan’s stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and respects its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Both presidents have also agreed to increase the number of flights between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Shavkat Mirziyoyev added, “Regarding aviation, we currently have 15 flights per week, and we’ve reached an understanding to further enhance this. What does this signify? As our travels increase, we have the opportunity to become better acquainted, meet face-to-face, and form even stronger bonds.”
