President Alvi highlighted youth’s role in economic growth

The president disclosed Huawei’s plans to set up a global service center in Pakistan.

Islamabad, 31 Aug, 2023 (GNP): The President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized the significant role of qualified youth of the country with advanced technological skills while stating that the nation’s economic growth highly depends on the development of Information Technology (IT).

During his address at the closing ceremony of the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-23 on Wednesday, the president underscored Pakistan’s stand as the second-largest freelance market in the world. He also highlighted the difficulties faced in financial activities and urged that simplifying the process could strengthen the economy with a 2-3% remarkable increase in the growth of GDP.

Moreover, he announced that IT has smoothly merged into almost every aspect of life. The president Dr. Alvi disclosed Huawei’s plans to set up a global service center in Pakistan, paving the way for job opportunities and transfer of knowledge to the youth of the country.

Meanwhile, appreciating the Industry-Academia Relationship, he said, “Huawei’s ICT Competition Programme reflects the strides made in the past decade, serving as a robust foundation for Pakistan’s ICT industry.”

Furthermore, the president recommended training camps within the university premises to prepare the graduates for the job market while prescribing effective measures in the educational sector.

Additionally, He stressed the educational institutions to launch two-year associate degree programs, affirming the usefulness of skills over conventional degrees in a swiftly emerging technologically advanced world.

The Huawei ICT Competition 2022-23 came to an end with the Pakistani teams winning prizes in the Network and Innovation Tracks, attaining second and third positions in the global finals held at Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China. Among 146 teams, this grand occurrence marked a restoration of in-person competitions since 2019.
