Islamabad, 22 March 2023 (GNP): Inaugurating two 1,650 megawatt coal-fired power facilities in Tharparker on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed the initiatives would eventually turn the desert into an economic hub.
11.24 billion units of affordable electricity will be produced yearly by the projects, which also include the 330 MW Thal Nova power plant and the 1,320 MW Shanghai Electric power plant. Through the direct investment of $3.53 billion into these projects, the production of coal-based power in Thar will increase up to 3,300 Megawatts.
The prime minister declared during the opening ceremony at the Islamkot area of Thar that the nation as a whole should be celebrating the arrival of a source of basic amenities for life in the Tharparker desert.
According to PM Shehbaz Sharif, the projects’ power turbines would be installed by April 30 in order to create electricity, which will then be sent to the rest of the country.

He expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for helping Pakistan carry out CPEC-related development projects.
The initiative may come to fruition, according to foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, as long as the federal and Sindh governments cooperated to benefit the general populace. He expressed delight with the degree of cooperation between Pakistan and China in carrying out development projects.
Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, claimed that Pakistan and China’s political and economic objectives were compatible for the good of both countries.
He characterized the Thar Coal project’s conclusion as a success for all parties involved from both countries.
According to Chinese Charge d’Affaires Pang Chunxue, the Thar coal project’s commercial operation was among the best of all coal-fired power plants. She pledged that the Chinese government would provide full assistance in the areas of prosperity and development.
