Islamabad (GNP): Senator Sherry Rehman attended the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change. The committee discussed the measures to be taken regarding climate change in Pakistan.
Sherry Rehman is a prominent advocate for climate change. She attended an expo organized by the SDPI Pakistan focused on climate change.
At this expo, she said, “Sustainability also means moving to a circular economy. This means Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling.”
Furthermore, she highlighted the statistics, “Pakistan generates 30 million tons of solid waste annually of which 1 % is recycled.”
She further emphasized, “Turning waste into energy and incentivizing green businesses can generate 2 billion USD annually. It can literally spin “sustainability into profit”

Recently, Sherry Rehman attended a Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environment. During the committee, Sherry Rehman called for a “new mechanism of measuring financial pledges from developing countries at the upcoming COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.”
She expressed her concerns, “Old mechanisms are not working.”

Additionally, she elaborated on the country’s vulnerability to climate change. She said, “Each year the emissions go up, the warming goes up and the pledges to finance resilience for vulnerable countries stay embarrassingly low.”

Moreover, she stressed a strategy for climate adaptivity and financing. , “If climate multilateralism is to mean anything it needs new mechanisms for tracking a fragmented landscape of financing.”
Lastly, Senator Rehman added that it is the “time to consider Internationally Determined Contributions to measure finance flows along with the Nationally Determined Contributions to measure climate ambition.”
