Islamabad, 8 March 2023 (GNP): Former Prime Minister Imran Khan named Chaudhary Parvez Elahi as president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on Tuesday, following a sequence of political moves in which the latter sided with the PTI Chairman.
During the most recent elections, Elahi, who was formerly one of the top Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leaders, has remained Khan’s coalition partner in the province. Following his ouster from the center of government in a parliamentary no-confidence vote in April, the former Prime Minister proposed him for the position of Chief Minister of Punjab.

Once his administration was overthrown, Khan also began pushing for early elections in the nation. To exert pressure on the government, he eventually stated that the legislative bodies in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where his party held control, would be dissolved.
Elahi followed his orders and sent the governor a summary requesting the dismissal of the legislature.
Khan wrote in a brief statement published on his party’s letterhead and signed as the PTI chairman, “Ch Pervez Illahi is hereby, named as President Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Elahi officially joined the party on February 21 before that.

The announcement was made by the party’s senior vice president Chaudhary Fawad Hussain, who praised the former chief minister of Punjab for sticking by Khan “through thick and thin.”
Elahi would be named PTI president, according to Hussain, who added that the senior party leadership has made and accepted the decision.
