Manila (GNP): A Senate of Pakistan parliamentary delegation, led by Senator Abdul Qadir, has arrived in Manila, Philippines, to take part in a two-day international conference titled “Independent Fiscal Institutions and the Management of Intergovernmental Fiscal Relations: Towards Strengthening Economic and Inclusive Growth.”
Senator Waqar Mehdi is also part of the Pakistani delegation. The conference, running from September 28-29, 2026, brings together parliamentarians, heads of fiscal institutions, economists, and policymakers from around the world to discuss fiscal governance and inclusive economic development.
The gathering coincides with ASEAN’s broader regional framework, which traces back to a roadmap for the ASEAN Community declared by regional leaders in 2009 and formally launched in 2015. That community rests on three pillars — the Political-Security Community, the Economic Community, and the Socio-Cultural Community — with the follow-up vision, ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together, introduced the same year as a post-2015 roadmap.
This vision encompasses the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 alongside individual blueprints for the Political-Security, Economic, and Socio-Cultural Communities through 2025. The ASEAN Political-Security Community aims to promote regional peace and foster a just, democratic, and harmonious environment.

While the ASEAN Economic Community represents the region’s goal of full economic integration — envisioning ASEAN as a unified market and production base, a highly competitive economic region, and one fully connected to the global economy with equitable development across member states.
