New York, 16 December 2022 (GNP/TDI): The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chaired a Ministerial Conference of G-77 Plus China in New York.
Bilawal is currently on an official visit to the United States (US), where he is attending several events, including a meeting with United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed.
The conference was held to agree on the emergency measures required to enable developing countries to overcome the challenges of food, fuel, and finance. It also highlighted the efforts of Pakistan in combating terrorism.

The conference discussed systemic measures and structural changes needed to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Opening remarks by Foreign Minister
In his opening remarks, Bilawal emphasized the dire situation of developing countries which continued to suffer from the severe impacts of climate change.
In this vein, he added, “Without emergency and systemic actions, the development divide will grow into an unbridgeable gulf, transforming our world into a nightmare.”
“250 million face hunger. Famine haunts millions. Financial austerity will freeze growth and enlarge hunger and poverty in developing countries. We must chart a path to break out of the poverty trap.” Bilawal reiterated.
The Foreign Minister also urged the international community to help Pakistan combat and go after those who backed and facilitated terrorism in Pakistan.
Along these lines, the Minister noted, “We should finally work together to put an end to this longstanding point of irritation between Pakistan & India. Let us look to the future and ensure to going forward.”

Bilawal highlighted that Pakistan is not pursuing discounted energy from Russia. The government is exploring various markets to address the energy insecurity facing the country.
Meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General and UNGA President
Bilawal met with UNGA President as well as the UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed in a bilateral meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The Foreign Minister commended the Secretary-General for the UN system’s ongoing assistance to flood victims. He also praised the creation of the ‘Loss and Damage Fund’ and urged its early implementation.
Amina Mohammed praised Pakistan’s position as Chair of the G77 and China, as well as its advocacy for developing countries. She pledged her continued assistance to Pakistan’s flood victims.
