Chinese and Indian hostility at the UN

Beijing does not support the Indian plea for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council owing to its tussle with New Delhi. 

New York, 16 December 2022 (GNP):  The Chinese and Indian representatives at the United Nations criticized each other countries after two days of discussion on the proposed reforms about multilateralism and counterterrorism, a discussion to enhance cooperation regarding this Issue in the UN Security Council.

The Indian foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar demanded that a global order that represents the global political reality and dynamics be adopted. The Chinese permanent representative at the UN, Zhang Jun, demanded the enhanced role and presence of African countries in this World body.

Beijing does not support the Indian plea for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council owing to its tussle with New Delhi.  Meanwhile, France, Britain, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) seconded India s’ candidacy for permanent membership in UN Security Council.

The heated argumentations between the two sides came after two days when Chinese and Indian troops clashed with each other in the disputed Himalayan territory upon which two neighboring countries claim their sovereignty.

The Indian foreign minister S Jaishankar indirectly blamed China for misusing his prerogative power as one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to protect and justify the heinous perpetrators from the law.

The Indian government says that Beijing is blocking its efforts to enlist some Pakistani persons as terrorists, which New Delhi strongly believes have planned and organized the Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008.

Among 166 people killed in these attacks, 26 foreign nationals were also included. New Delhi accuses the premiere Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and the militant organization Lashkar-e-Taibia of planning and carrying out these attacks in 2008.

Zhang Jun reiterated his country’s proposal to set aside ideological and geopolitical calculations in defining and eradicating the menace of terrorism.

West criticizes Beijing for human rights violations in its Xinjiang province, where Muslim separatists are fighting for East Turkistan. The Indian foreign minister left the meeting as a protest when a Chinese representative started his speech. Jaishankar returned only when Mr. Zhang Jun finished his speech.
