Pakistan gets a loan of $2 billion from UAE

Pakistan has been struggling with cash crisis for a year now. With UAE pledging to help the country by providing a loan, the government can be at ease for a while.

Islamabad, 19 January 2023 (GNP): The Finance Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, revealed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) provided Pakistan with a 2 billion dollars loan on 12 January 2023 so that Pakistan, currently a cash-deprived country can fulfill its financial plans.

In a tweet, Ishaq Dar wrote: “Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has rolled over their deposit of $2 billion with State Bank of Pakistan, as discussed by PM Shehbaz Sharif with His Highness the President of UAE Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during last week’s official visit to the UAE.”

The announcement comes after Prime minister Shehbaz Sharif made a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates. He met the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan to discuss business and economic opportunities with other officials and business leaders. The prime minister stated after getting the news of a loan from the UAE: “This support will help us tide over economic difficulties.” The UAE’s financial assistance has offered some respite to Pakistan even though it’s still suffering from disastrous after effects of last year’s floods that have caused more than $30 billion of damage to the country.
