OGRA increases gas prices by 124%

The price rise does not apply to home gas users who utilizes 50 Cubic meters gas.

Islamabad, 17 February 2023 (GNP): Following recommendations from the Petroleum Division, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced on Wednesday a gas sale price increase for some categories of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines and Sui Southern Gas Company consumers from 16.6% to 124%.

The Federal Cabinet’s approval of the Economic Coordination Committee’s decision about the price of gas sales, effective January 1, 2023, was transmitted, according to OGRA, by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy.

The sale prices for each category of natural gas retail consumers were announced by OGRA.

According to information, home gas consumers who use 100 cubic meters of gas per month will experience a 16.6% increase in price because their new cost has been set at Rs350 per Million British Thermal Unit, up from their previous rate of Rs300 per MMBTU.

Similar to this, the price of gas for home clients who use 200 cubic meters of gas has increased by 32%, and their new price is now Rs730 per MMBTU, up from their previous rate of Rs553 per MMBTU.

Domestic gas users who use 300 cubic meters of gas have seen their gas prices increase by 69% to Rs.  1,250 per MMBTU, and those who use 400 cubic meters of gas have seen their gas prices increase by 99% to Rs. 2,200 per MMBTU. Also, the price increase for users who use more than 400 cubic meters of gas is a 124% increase to Rs3,277 per MMBTU from Rs1,460 earlier.

According to sources, the price increase will result in the collection of Rs310 million over the following six months. Those who use 50 cubic meters or less of gas in their homes will not be affected by the price rise, though.
