Islamabad (GNP): Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza met with Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where he was formally welcomed upon arrival.
Admiral Ashraf congratulated General Raza on becoming the first officer to hold the newly created position of Commander National Strategic Command.
During their meeting, the naval chief briefed Raza on current maritime security challenges and the Navy’s readiness to protect national interests at sea, while Raza acknowledged the Navy’s operational preparedness in safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime borders.
Meeting with Army Chief
General Raza later met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters, where Munir also congratulated him on assuming his new role.
Raza was commissioned into the 6 Lancers regiment in 1988 and is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and the National Defence University, Islamabad.
He holds a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Nottingham in the UK, along with two additional master’s degrees — in the Arts and Science of Warfare and in Defence and Strategic Studies — both from the National Defence University.
Throughout his career, Raza has held a variety of command, staff, and instructional positions. He commanded the 6 Lancers from November 2007 to September 2009, later leading an armored brigade, an infantry brigade in South Waziristan, and an infantry division.
His earlier roles included serving as Brigade Major of an infantry brigade, GSO-2 to the Chief of General Staff, Chief of Staff of a Strike Corps, and Director General of the Weapons & Equipment Directorate.

On the instructional side, he has served as an instructor at the School of Armour and Mechanized Warfare, Director of FORADS, and Chief Instructor at the Command and Staff College, Quetta. He assumed command of Heavy Industries Taxila on April 28, 2020, and was promoted to Lieutenant General on October 11, 2022.
