New Gwadar International Airport to be inaugurated soon

The new airport will be ranked as the second largest airport in Pakistan covering an area of 18 square kilometers.

Beijing, 27 July, 2023 (GNP): The new Gwadar International Airport, a flagship project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is soon to be inaugurated as revealed by the Commercial Counsellor of the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing Ghulam Qadir on Tuesday.

The widely awaited event will witness a powerful Chinese delegation coming to Pakistan mainly to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the new Gwadar International Airport.

The new Gwadar International Airport is set to play a key role in the progression of CPEC and highlights the strong partnership between Pakistan and China in promoting better infrastructure and regional economic growth.

The $230 million project which started in 2019 and fully funded by the government of China is established in Gurandani, 26km east of Gwadar city.

However, the new airport will be ranked as the second largest airport in Pakistan covering an area of 18 square kilometers.

Moreover, directed by the China Airport Construction Group the project comprises 32 constituents, including runways, taxiways, aprons, a terminal, and airport support infrastructure, utilities, and facilities.

The launching ceremony of the airport took place on 29 March, 2019, and the execution of the project was given to the Aviation Division. The construction began on 31 October, 2019.

According to media sources, Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) completed the airport’s safety inspection and declared it clear and ready for flight operations.

The new airport will be able to manage a wide range of aircraft, including the ATR 72, Airbus (A-300), Boeing (B-737), and Boeing (B-747), which will serve both domestic and international routes.
