Islamabad (GNP): Ambassador Mohamed Karmoune Ambassador of Morocco to Pakistan, reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing shared development goals.
Ambassador Mohamed Karmoune, highlighted Morocco’s remarkable economic and social progress under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, particularly in industry, tourism, renewable energy, and investment.
He also underscored the historic and brotherly Morocco-Pakistan relationship, built on more than seven decades of mutual respect, trust, and cooperation. He noted the growing political and institutional engagement between the two countries, including high-level exchanges and coordination at international forums.
The event was jointly organized by the Centre for Afghanistan, Middle East & Africa (CAMEA) at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and the Pakistan Africa Institute for Development and Research (PAIDAR). Karmoune attended as chief guest, alongside guest of honor Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, Additional Foreign Secretary for Africa. Other speakers included Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, President of PAIDAR; Syed Adil Gillani, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Morocco; Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman of ISSI’s Board of Governors; ISSI Director General Ambassador Moin ul Haque; and Dr. Amina Khan, Director of CAMEA.

Ambassador Moin ul Haque highlighted the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Morocco, acknowledging Morocco’s cultural heritage and its modernization under King Mohammed VI’s leadership.
Senator Sayed recalled Pakistan’s historical support for Morocco’s independence movement and Morocco’s role in founding the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, praising Morocco’s cultural heritage and hospitality as further evidence of the strong bond between the two nations.
Ambassador Gillani highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral relations through high-level exchanges in 2026 and expanding cooperation in trade, agriculture, and tourism, noting Morocco’s significant regional role and its relevance to Pakistan’s broader “Engage Africa” policy.
Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan pointed to Morocco’s achievements in tourism, security, and infrastructure, highlighting the country’s tourism sector, which drew 18 million visitors and generated $14 billion in revenue last year, while identifying further opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, education, and water management.
Dr. Amina Khan discussed Morocco’s development under King Mohammed VI and its important position within Africa, emphasizing the country’s role as a key partner for Pakistan’s engagement with the continent.

Closing the event, Ambassador Khalid Mahmood described Morocco as a strategic bridge between Sub-Saharan Africa and the wider world, highlighting opportunities for Pakistan in trade and investment, and commended the Moroccan Embassy’s efforts in promoting cultural understanding between the two countries.
